AMERICAN JACQUARD COVERLET,
c. 1837

Woven in Millerstown, now Annville, Lebanon Co. Pennsylvania, by Joseph Smith for J. Imboden. The earliest know coverlet by Smith was in partnership w/ his son, Joseph Smith & Son. See Checklist of American Coverlet Weavers, this coverlet predates the the checklist example. Red, white and blue, w/ early two piece construction, decorated w/ leaves, flowers, roses and acorns, 92" x 80", excellent.
